Netball is a knee-demand sport

Sudden stops, single-leg landings, and direction changes under fatigue make netball one of the highest knee-risk sports we see at Evolve Physio in Cabramatta — especially after ACL, MCL, meniscus or patellofemoral injury.

Clear these before competition

  • Strength: single-leg squat and calf capacity that don’t collapse under fatigue
  • Hop symmetry: single and triple hop within ~10% of the other side
  • Landing quality: soft, aligned landings without knee cave
  • Cutting: figure-8 / change-of-direction at 80–100% without swelling next day
  • Training first: full training sessions before match minutes
  • Head ready: confidence to take contact and land — see confidence after injury

A simple staged return

  1. Gym strength + hop work
  2. Court skills without opposition
  3. Opposed training drills
  4. Limited match minutes
  5. Full match load

Buy The ACL Comeback Program or request an online consult

The ACL Comeback Program is our paid 28-day lower-limb strength and confidence block ($50). We use it for ACL and meniscus rehabs — and for athletes stuck in the “almost better” phase after knee sprain, giving-way, or a long layoff from running and court sport. It is built for the whole lower limb, not only post-op ACL.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long after an ACL reconstruction can I play netball?

Often 9–12+ months, and only after strength and hop symmetry criteria are met — not just a calendar date. Some athletes need longer if psychological readiness or landing quality lag.

What tests should I pass before a match?

Pain-free training, near-symmetric single-leg hop and triple hop, controlled landing without collapse, and cutting at game intensity without next-day swelling.

Can I return in a brace?

A brace can help early confidence, but it isn’t a substitute for strength and landing control. We prefer criteria-based clearance over brace-dependent play.

My knee feels fine walking — why can’t I just play?

Walking isn’t jumping, pivoting or landing on one leg under fatigue. Netball demand is much higher than day-to-day comfort.

Should I do FIFA 11+ style warm-ups?

Yes — neuromuscular warm-ups reduce injury risk in court and field sports when done consistently. Pair them with gym strength, not instead of it.

What’s the best paid program for this?

Purchase The ACL Comeback Program for a 28-day lower-limb strength and hop block, then request an online consult if you want sport-specific staging for netball.
