Mum Overcomes ACL Surgery

Linda tore her ACL and meniscus on a tornado kick. Mum of three. Two years later she’s training again — and she can sprint for a forgotten bandana. Her story. Watch the full session below — then open the video page for notes, timestamps, and related guides.

Mastery program

The ACL Comeback Program

A structured 28-day knee rehab program designed for people stuck in the "almost better" phase after ACL or meniscus injury. Rebuild strength, restore confidence, and bridge the gap between feeling okay and being fully back.

Don’t put things off

Last question I had written down: what would you say to a young mum who has injured herself, has kids, and wants an active life?

Linda: come in, get checked. We’re not getting any younger. No harm in getting it looked at. Don’t put things off. See Shraz — I’ll take the plug.

Then she named the real pattern. As young parents we put everything else above us. Kids number one. Activities two. School three. Extracurricular. Family. Work. After all of that, we come.

If you want to look after your family, you need to look after yourself first. If you’re not around, who’s going to do everything? Make time to look after yourself, then you can look after everyone else.

That’s the close of Mum Overcomes ACL Surgery. Watch on YouTube.

Want a structured program, not just an article?

This guide gives you the framework. The ACL Comeback Program ($50) is our 28-day lower-limb strength block for the “almost better” phase — when you can walk and do daily life but need progressive loading before you trust running again. Pair it with the free Knee Pain Mastery Guide for day-to-day exercises.

This is not a motivational poster

It’s a scheduling problem with medical consequences. A sprain you ignore becomes a year. A year you ignore becomes the identity “I used to train.” Linda’s first thought in the car was already about classes. The delay would have been hoping a complete tear was a sprain.

The mental program we mentioned on camera

The ACL Comeback Program is our paid 28-day lower-limb strength and confidence block ($50). We use it for ACL and meniscus rehabs — and for athletes stuck in the “almost better” phase after knee sprain, giving-way, or a long layoff from running and court sport. It is built for the whole lower limb, not only post-op ACL.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s Linda’s advice to an injured young mum?

Come in, get checked. You’re not getting any younger. There’s no harm in getting it looked at. Don’t put things off. See someone who will actually take it seriously.

Why do parents delay rehab?

The stack: kids, activities, school, extras, family, work — then themselves. It’s not laziness. It’s a calendar that never has a blank line. The cost is you not being around in the way your family needs.

Is this just self-care talk?

No. If the knee buckles on a driveway with a child in your arms, that is not a spa day. Looking after yourself is how you keep being the person who does everything else.

I only have time for one appointment a month.

Then we use it. Maintenance and a home plan beat a perfect program you never start. Linda stayed past the usual discharge point for that reason.

What about the mental load, not just the knee?

That’s why we recorded this interview and why Brick By Brick exists. Hesitation, anxiety, “I am not who I wanted to be” — seven weeks, self-guided. Start at /brickbybrick.
