Doubt Dragon, Fear Phantom, Comparison Cat: The Three Monsters on the Way to Your Goal
What even is the journey?
Everyone says trust the journey. In Episode 5 — The Monsters You Need To Overcome, Shranal defines it:
- Start: a point of significance — torn ACL, disc herniation, broken ankle, lost job, lost someone, dropped from the team.
- End: the goal — return to sport, new job, play with your kids, whatever Golandia is for you.
- Process: everything in between — where the monsters live.
On the whiteboard: you’re paddling, Shranal’s on the telescope (Shrazy Maps), Matt’s on the boat for the vibes — heading to Golandia. Matt’s own avulsion fracture that week made the metaphor literal: significance → tricking again / world-class coaching as the end point.
Three monsters
- Dragon of Doubt — flames of “I can’t” and “what if.”
- Fear Phantom — paralysis; false evidence appearing real.
- Cat of Comparison — teammates, Neymar, doom-scroll — wrong game.
Calm seas start inside
Your internal state will be shown and reflected in the external state. The external waters will reflect what is already within.
Most people think they have motion sickness because the waves are too big. The workbook flips it:
A calm sailor doesn’t beg the ocean to change. They learn to steer.
The stiller you are internally, the smoother the ride. Stop blaming everyone and everything you can’t change. Change how you feel — then the waters change. Unlock Brick By Brick below (episodes 1–4 prep this one).

It starts at a point of significance (ACL, disc, broken ankle, lost job, lost someone, getting dropped). The end is your goal. Everything in between is the process — where the monsters show up.
What are the three monsters?
The Dragon of Doubt, the Fear Phantom, and the Cat of Comparison — on the boat toward “Golandia,” Matt’s name for the goal island.
What does internal vs external waters mean?
Your internal state reflects in the external waters. Anxiety, excuses, doubt, fear and comparison make the voyage rocky. Stillness, calm and slaying monsters smooth the ride to the goal.
