Stop Moving the Goalposts: Smell the Roses, Free the Outcome, Drop the Label
Closer you get, further away
In Episode 6, the trap is clear: keep improving, never enough, months and years pass, beautiful garden — and you never smell the flowers. Goalpost here; Mandm steps closer; people shove the goalpost further.
Homework from the board: write 10 things you’re proud of from the last six weeks. Read them out loud. Put them in the comments if you’re watching live.
Why detachment matters (four)
- Freedom from the outcome — you still care; you’re not ruled. Lightness instead of shackles.
- Freedom from control — you control consistency, effort, attitude/patience — not how fast tissue always heals. Obsessing “when am I 100%?” and comparing timelines is optional suffering (suffer twice).
- Uno reverse the label — knee pain may be there; it doesn’t have you. Put down “I’m the person with sciatica / dropped / alone / X.” That chapter is closed.
- High-level performance — elite athletes detach from pressure and focus on playing. Brisbane Broncos finals: Walsh sin-binned, comes back, tries and assists, overtime win — laser on play, not the spiral.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the self-development trap in this episode?
Improve forever and never enough — you’ve built a beautiful garden but never stop to smell the flowers. As you step closer to the goalpost, you move it further away. When does it ever become enough?
Does detachment mean you don’t care about the outcome?
No. Detachment means whatever happens, you’re not affected or ruled by the outcome. You feel light — you let go of the chains (anxiety, stress). Freedom from needing certainty about when you’re 100% again.
What can you control in healing?
Consistency (showing up to rehab), effort (mind–muscle connection — glute bridges aren’t lower-back bridges), and attitude/patience. You can’t fully control physiological pace. Stop suffering twice: the injury, plus optional pressure and deadlines.
