NDIS Physiotherapy in Liverpool & Cabramatta: A Participant's Guide

Why NDIS physiotherapy matters in Southwest Sydney

Liverpool, Cabramatta, Fairfield and Bankstown sit inside one of the highest-density NDIS participant regions in metropolitan Sydney. For many participants, physiotherapy is one of the most practical supports their plan can fund — it directly improves how they move, how much assistance they need day to day, and how confidently they can get out into the community.

According to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), more than 660,000 Australians were NDIS participants as of 2024. A significant proportion access allied-health supports, and physiotherapy is consistently one of the most-used capacity-building services. Yet many families we meet in Southwest Sydney tell us the same thing: they weren't sure exactly how to spend their plan on physio, who to see, or what "good" looked like. This guide exists to fix that.

Who is NDIS physio for?

NDIS physiotherapy is funded when physio services are related to your disability and help you work towards the goals in your plan. We commonly see participants with:

  • Cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, stroke, or other neurological conditions
  • Spinal cord injury or progressive neurological disease (MS, Parkinson's, motor neurone disease)
  • Muscular dystrophy and other genetic or developmental conditions
  • Intellectual disability with associated motor, balance or pain issues
  • Autism spectrum disorder with motor coordination or sensory-motor needs
  • Complex musculoskeletal or post-surgical conditions linked to the primary disability
  • Age-related conditions for younger participants (under 65) meeting NDIS access criteria

The key test is always the same: does this service help the participant work toward their NDIS goals in a way that is reasonable and necessary? If the answer is yes, physio is typically in scope.

How funding actually works

Most NDIS physiotherapy is billed under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living. The standard NDIS price guide sets the rate, and sessions are generally 45–60 minutes. Reporting, travel (to home visits), and non-face-to-face time (writing letters, therapy planning) are billable items too, and we're transparent about them up front on your service agreement.

If you're self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose any qualified physio, including us, regardless of registration status. If you're agency-managed, you'll need a provider who is NDIS-registered; check with our admin team before booking. Either way, we'll quote all services clearly so you know exactly what's being drawn from your plan.

What to expect at your first appointment

Your initial assessment is usually 60 minutes. It's a relaxed conversation followed by a hands-on examination. We'll cover:

  • Your NDIS goals and what you'd like physio to help with
  • Your medical history, medications, and any specialist involvement
  • A movement, strength, balance and functional assessment appropriate to your condition
  • Pain, fatigue, spasticity or other barriers that come up during daily life
  • Equipment, mobility aids, orthotics and home modifications where relevant

From there we build a personalised plan. Most participants do a block of 6–12 sessions, then review progress. If outcomes are tracking well, we continue. If not, we adjust or hand over to another discipline — often exercise physiology or speech pathology — to address what physio alone can't.

In-clinic, home visits, and telehealth

Our Cabramatta clinic is a short drive from Liverpool, Fairfield, Canley Heights and Bankstown, with accessible parking and a ground-floor treatment room. For participants with significant mobility or transport limitations, home visits across Southwest Sydney are available, and telehealth works well for exercise progression, carer education and plan reviews between hands-on sessions.

How we work alongside your support team

Most participants have a team — support coordinators, plan managers, GPs, specialists, and sometimes school or day-program staff. We write concise, goal-focused progress reports that fit into plan reviews, and we communicate directly with coordinators and families so everyone stays on the same page. If you don't yet have a support coordinator and need help navigating the system, just ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Evolve Physio an NDIS-registered provider?

Yes. Evolve Physio & Mastery provides physiotherapy to plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants, and we work with agency-managed participants where we hold the appropriate registration. You can use our services whether you live in Liverpool, Cabramatta, Fairfield, Canley Heights, Bankstown, or anywhere else in Southwest Sydney.

Which part of my NDIS plan pays for physio?

Physiotherapy is generally funded under 'Improved Daily Living' (Capacity Building supports), line item 15_056_0128_1_3, which covers assessment, therapy, and reporting. Shorter-term injury-related physio can sometimes come out of 'Core Supports' where it's directly linked to your disability-related needs. Your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm what is available.

Do I need a referral from my GP to access NDIS physio?

No referral is needed to see a physio — we're first-contact practitioners in Australia. What you do need is a current NDIS plan with capacity-building funding, or a support coordinator / plan manager who can approve the service agreement.

Can you do home visits for NDIS participants?

Yes. We offer in-clinic, telehealth, and home-visit physiotherapy across Liverpool, Cabramatta and surrounding Southwest Sydney suburbs — particularly helpful for participants with mobility limitations, fatigue, or transport barriers.

What's the difference between NDIS physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology?

Physios typically lead on assessment, pain management, manual therapy, post-surgical rehab, and complex neurological rehab. Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) typically lead on longer-term exercise programs, chronic disease management, and strength and conditioning. Many participants benefit from both working together — see our companion post on NDIS Exercise Physiology for details.

Can I switch NDIS physio providers?

Yes. You can change providers at any time. You'll need to end your current service agreement (most providers require 14 days' notice) and start a new one with us. We can help coordinate the transition so you don't lose momentum on your goals.
